The old adage: to a man with a hammer, the whole world looks like a nail.

Or in your case, to those long Qualcomm, the whole world revolves around CDMA.

I see it differently.

Voice is nice. I don't need 3G to get more voice. If broadband is really really important, I don't need to tack it on my voice device. I can tack it on my broadband data device. Because where something is "important" is contextual, not ubiquitous.

Having a ubiquitous service for a contextual need is not necessarily an advantage. Think in terms of shelter. One can live in a tent anywhere on the planet. But we are willing to pay way more for a less ubiquitously available "house" (and maybe a cottage, and infrequently a hotel and sometimes even a tent), simply because we are willing to give up the luxury of being able to live everywhere we might happen to find ourselves in exchange for better living conditions in the one or two places we call "home".
