Changes are short term, trends are long. The rise and fall of the dollar is short term - unless there is a strong dollar policy that creates a trend.

Changes in drilling bans, etc, have short term consequences on prices. Trends towards conservation, or real alternatives that have a lasting impact, are trends.

Increasing drilling on small reserves are expected and priced in - a consequence of the current high price. However, the reserve numbers don't exist here to make for it a trend.
