ALBUQUERQUE -- Nearly 700 employees now, a thousand by the end of the year; that's the latest good news from Albuquerque's Eclipse Aviation.
Eclipse will soon start delivering its first light business jets to customers and needs more workers to expand production lines.

For current Eclipse employees, there's growing anticipation and excitement plus a sense of major accomplishment.

After years of work, and building five test jets to win Federal Aviation Administration certification, the first production jet is being built for delivery to a real customer. That customer is one of more than 2,000 people or companies who have already ordered their own jets and made deposits with eclipse.

All are banking on the most economical and high-tech light jet ever built.

Six more customer aircraft already are in various stages of completion on the production line.

“We'll be exiting the end of this year with production aircraft of just over one aircraft per day,” Eclipse CEO Vern Raburn said. “So we'll build about 86 planes this year and then about 606 airplanes next year.”

And the work force is also growing. Eclipse hired 18 more people Monday morning and 24 last week brining the workforce to 675. Rayburn said he expects the FAA to certify the Eclipse within the next six weeks with the first jet to be handed over to its new owner right after that.

The company plans to hire more than 300 more employees by the end of the year.
