BEFORE THE BELL - Dell trades higher

NEW YORK, May 19 (Reuters) - Dell Computer Corp. shares moved higher in pre-opening trade Tuesday as investors
anticipated good news when the company reported its quarterly earnings later in the day, dealers said.

Dell traded at 97, up 2-1/2 from its Monday close. The company was expected to report its earnings after the close for the
quarter ending April 30. The Wall Street consensus estimate was $0.42 per share, as compiled by First Call Corp.

Intel Corp. (INTC - news) was trading slightly higher before the bell at 79-5/8, apparently benefiting from optimism about Dell,
dealers said. Intel closed Monday at 79-6/16.

COR Therapeutics Inc. (CORR - news) traded at 18-1/2, up from its 16-14/16 close, after winning U.S. Food and Drug
Administration marketing approval for its Integrilin drug.

Intermedia Communications Inc. (ICIX - news) traded at 74-5/8, up from a close at 73-15/16. Prudential Securities initiated
coverage of the company with a buy rating.


Merck & Co. (MRK - news) was at 120-1/2 before the bell, up from a close at 119-13/16, dealers said. Merck and DuPont
Co. (DD - news) announced that DuPont would buy Merck's half-interest in their pharmaceutical joint venture for $2.6 billion.

DuPont had not traded. It closed Monday at 80-3/4.
