An eloquent statement on the hopeful outcome from this tragedy. The comparison with piracy in the early 19th century is particularly apt. When the Tripoli pirates tried to "hold up" the young United States, the refrain, "Millions for defense, but not one cent for tribute," rose up, and President Jefferson responded accordingly.

I fully expect President Bush to do the same.
