@NeverTrumpTexan Trump needed SOMETHING to show for it. He needed a deal with the Chinese who had him over a barrel. So he ignored Chinese atrocities in Hong Kong, privately approved Uigher concentration camps, and took China's word for it on the Coronavirus. All so he could get a deal. [ And Trump never got a Chinese trade deal. ] As much as people like to say Trump was tough on China, the opposite is the absolute truth. Trump started a trade war that was BAD for America. It cost the average American $1k in increased costs, capped US productivity and hurt the stock market for two years. Any understanding of the last 18 months of Trump's Presidency needs to be seen through the lense of Trump's stupid trade war. We let China run rough shod over Hong Kong AND and hesitated to respond to a deadly virus because Trump painted himself into a corner and needed a deal. @mattyglesias Trump spending all of February trying to stop anyone from doing anything about Covid because he didn’t want to ruin his fake trade deal with China seems pretty bad. twitter.com/prchovanec/sta…
