Oooh, 138 bucks a share. If you had worked the long side, you could have done a heck of a lot better than that with fewer trades, saving a lot on commissions.
Last December 8th, the stock closed at 321.01. It ran to 363.10 on February 16th, 2011, two months later. the day this thread was inaugurated and Zax called the top. You could have made 42 bucks on the long side right there.
And the stock did drop back down from there, ending up on June 20th at the 52 week low of 315.32. July 11th, three weeks later, it closed at 403.41. So there was an opportunity for almost 90 bucks a share. Which, added to the 42 bucks from the previous rally would have given you 132 bucks per share in total profits for the year.
Another pullback to 353.21 on August 8th, afforded an opportunity to get in for more easy gains. The stock reached 422.24 on October 8th. Close to another 70 bucks in profit. More than 200 for the year with three trades.
You would have been way ahead if you had managed to get near those buy and sell points.
Or, you could have just bought on December 8th last year, held it all this time, and be sitting on a profit of 78 bucks a share at this moment, with a big rally ahead of you.
But go ahead. Laugh heartily at your own cleverness in tripping over hundreds to pick up twenties. |
