I have DVD/CDROM on my laptop and DVD + a CD burner on my desktop. I use the CD burner occasionally, mainly to save images from my digital camera. I never use the DVD on my desktop.

However, I do use the DVD on my laptop. If you wear high-quality headphones, the sound is amazing and with a laptop it is possible to watch movies in a comfortable posture. I can also throw a few movies in my briefcase when I travel and watch them on the plane or hotel room.

I have found that the jitter problem is somewhat dependent on the DVD disks. I have some that always jump in the same place and others that are fine.
