We all knew that already. What struck me was the logic of not taking up all that space on the outside of the disk (the fastest part). When I tried a setting of 1024 for minimum swap file more than 10% of my disk space got eaten up. Took norton about 30 minutes to move all this to the front of the disk. I reset to 300 (amount of ram adjusted up to the nearest 50) and have been monitoring swap file and virtual memory since. I did exceed the swap file size and dip into virtual once but only after I had almost everything on my computer running. VM dipped to 17% remaining and I figured it was time to quit pushing. At the time I couldn't tell any degradation in the speed of any app. In reality, I would never have that many apps open at one time anyway.
