There are several types of meningitis with bacterial and viral being the most common. Headaches, fever, stiff neck, and altered mental status (confusion, coma, etc.) are common presenting complaints. I am sure they have already performed a lumbar puncture and CAT scan by now. The diagnosis is probably more clear than we know. They probably won't tell anyone outside of family.
