ok.. actually that data cd from metastock is not needed at all. Assuming you have a broadband connection, you can collect 500 stocks of data from the start of the database in 30 min (initial download)..

What you do is this: you go to the downloader program. then go to FILE MENU, SELECT NEW, SELECT SECURITIES

TYPE IN THE SYMBOL AND NAME OF COMPANY/INDICES

for the indices, if you don't know the symbol, then hit the LOOKUP BUTTON.

select which folder/directory you wish to keep your securities data.. I have in a separate directory.

for first date, type in 1/1/1990. That will insure you will get all the data in their database.

click OK.

So the above instructions will "create" a new security for you to download.
