** Public Service Announcement **

In the interest of full and fair disclosure:

You may have read that AOL is kicking people off after 45 minutes. Then comes the observation that this gives the lie to AOL's promise of unlimited access. I believe this was the spin put on at C|Net.

The reality: After 45 minutes connected, a dialog box pops and says:

"You have been connected 45 minutes. Do you want to stay online? If you do not respond in ten minutes you will be disconnected"

There is a click button to continue. This process repeats every 45 minutes. (I just clicked on one, having been on for 90 minutes this morning).

There have been instances where people in the middle of web games or long file downloads have been unknowingly disconnected by this process, and AOL has committed to provide a solution for this.

An in-the-field report, from a long investor and long-time user....
