I think it's something to do with sellers being scared out in the first dip (cup) and the remaining sellers bailing out on the second dip (handle), leaving only holders and buyers. The psychological underpinnings of TA are often tenuous at best. I think most TA comes from observation of historical chart patterns rather than analysis of investor psychology. AF
