A senior leadership aide said
Lott was considering the idea
of creating a new Republican
leadership position for
Jeffords. "Our leadership is
willing to do whatever it takes
to remain a majority in the
U.S. Senate," said the GOP
aide.

Maybe they can pull a Florida and change the Constitution to add a few seats to the Senate and have them made by "presidential appointment"
:)

Scott, you don't understand the workings of the US gov't very well. The Supreme Court is about to step in AGAIN and the Rep. senior aide is setting the groundwork as well as cueing them.

Probably the Sup. Ct will rule that Jeffords can't change parties because it will result in the Dems having a majority in the Senate. They will go on to say that Reps are permitted to upset the status quo but not the Dems 'cause they are too liberal!! ;~))
