You analogy is less than 30% right in the macro picture of the event IMO. I believe after the WTC twin towers were hit Bush chased the right person (BIN LADEN) who was masterminding 9/11 attack. Bush sent troops to the right country Afghanistan to find him (at the time all the US allies and friends including France, Germany, Russia and most other countries gave green light to this US move). But when Bush sent troops to invade Iraq, the same reason for the invasion became pure excuse(the above strong traditional allies and friends this time totally changed their standpoint and went against the US aggression against Iraq too). To believe the war-torn and much smaller Iraq is threatening the US is like to believe a small house cat is threatening a big tiger(and as expected, the US troops invade and occupied Iraq in just 3 weeks or so and found no WMDs, so what do you believe who is threatening who). The problems are what's the true reason for the wars and who really want them(we've all seen very clearly who had been planning and pushing for the Iraq war from long time ago and now we have seen clearly who's demanding US to fight another war against the other Middle East country as soon as the Iraq is done).

And a careful look at the official stories regarding 9/11, one may find many holes in it too. The preparation of the huge operation of 9/11 took a long time and had many people involved. Without certain powerful help, information about 9/11 attack would not slip through the strong US international and domestic intelligence networks and Bin Laden's 9/11 operation would not became successful.
