Pervert Paul,

2 good years is doing fine, and about how long Austin had for high profit production. That's doing fine in an industry with 2 year process cycles.

AMD started covering costs at Austin 7 years ago.

3 or 4 years is terrific (but I don't think Austin got 4 years of peak profits).

Opening new FABs that produce products with little or no competitive advantage to support margins, or opening FABs early in the down part of a semi cycle, is when you run into problems. Intel looks like they've done both, simultaneously.
