Re: Only FOOL AMDroids would buy such a piece of crap.

Ha! You wish!

Same price, weight, and feature PIII notebooks run about 40% slower on battery. For just over $2,000 you can get and Athlon4 notebook that runs at 1GHZ when it's used as a notebook and has better IPC than PIII. The equivalent price/weight/feature PIII is an 850 that runs at 650 on battery.

No wonder why AMD has gone from nothing to nearly 50% presence in the retail/small business mobile market. The last place for Intel to get high ASPs at large volume - and Intel sales in the segment are melting like snow in the hot sun.

Sure there are some high end PIII notebooks available that are lighter, but they also cost quite a bit more. Intel will keep that part of the market for a while, but they'll either cut the selling price on all their mobile chips by 2/3's, or give up 1/3 of the mobile market to AMD - almost overnight.

And Intel simply can't afford any more price cuts, not with their costs, so AMD grabs a big chunk of the mobile market - far faster than anyone expected!

Quite a victory for AMD.

Dan

PS - speaking of fools, what kind of ignorant sap buys an expensive P4 that has a fast clock and a slow everything else? Answer: very few.
