3COM and Cisco are good bets as strong players in the internet market. Novell is deader than a doornail though. Novell employees have to be asking themselves who will be the last one to turn the lights out. Microsoft has finally cracked the Local Area Network market with NT Server 4.0. Bill needs the money to finish his house anyway.

Early on 3com was competing with Novell for the LAN OS market. When it was clear they were not going to make it big in this area they switched gears and went heavy into the ethernet hardware market. So if the ethernet card market starts to dry up and Intel begins putting ethernet on their motherboards 3com will shift gears and increase it's other internet hardware product market.
