"In response to this, BIT has developed an innovative SC reader/writer chipset that facilitates the processing of SC in computer systems. BIT's chipset, like a video chipset, will be incorporated onto mother- boards of the computer and inot peripheral devices. At Comdex '97 tradeshow, the pre-emininent showcase of new and emerging computer technologies, BIT's chipset demonstrated an ability to read every major type of SC presented, a feat that distinguished the company from its competitors.
BIT PS/2 keyboard chipset is anticipated to be one of the most cost effective solutions for any keyboard manufacturer wishing to integrate a SC reader into their existing product line. In the near future, a SC equipped keyboard will be available in the consumer market, with a BIT PS/2 keyboard chipset tha complies with the PC/SC standard. With annual keyboard sales worldwide in the millions, BIT anticipates being one of the earliest suppliers capable of delivering this cost effective solution.
These developments are spurring our commitment to this product line. BIT's chipset programme is currently developing full range of chipset versions (PS/2, USB, Serial and PCMCIA), demonstration units, evalua- tion packages for each chipset version and is in pursuit of compliance to other major standards, including Mondex Approval Certificates. It is planned that the full product line will be available for shipment to computer manufacturers in the final quarter of 1998."
