FDA Finds Problems With Cancer Trials Using Interleukin
Dow Jones Newswires

WASHINGTON -- The Food and Drug Administration found problems with clinical trials using the drug interleukin to treat adult cancer patients, according to an FDA warning letter released Wednesday.

The letter, as released to the public, doesn't reveal the sponsor of the drug trials or the drug's brand name, if any.

The warning letter, dated June 20, was addressed to the Providence Cancer Center, which conducted the research.

Interleukin is a type of biological modifier (polypeptide) that stimulates the growth of certain disease-fighting blood cells in the human system, and several companies are conducting clinical trials of gene therapies for the treatment of different diseases.
