News Flash! Firms With Democratic Ties Benefit From Liberal Media Bias!

By Mark on Hurricane Katrina
Decision '08

I saw the headlines, and largely shrugged them off; a whole slew of media stories about how the Shaw Group, and Halliburton, with their ‘ties’ the President Bush, were getting contracts for Katrina reconstruction. My thought on this, as on all Halliburton stories, is that Halliburton gets these jobs because they are the kinds of jobs that Halliburton does. It’s as simple as that…one needn’t be surprised, after all, if an investment bank gets the job of advising on a corporate merger.

The beauty of the story escaped me, though: the Shaw Group, one of the two firms with ‘Bush ties’ is headed by the chairman of the Louisiana Democratic Party! And he’s a big crony of Governor Blanco’s! What liberal bias, indeed
