Steve, I agree with you when you say the stock could go to $50 on its own. But if you were a venture investor or a major shareholder like Luongo is, you might be better off in the long-run as part of Peoplesoft. Vantive could go to $50 in 6 months and then go to $15 in 18 months. Even if they sell out for $40, the game isn't over, they get to ride Peoplesoft's coattails to $50, $75, $100 and beyond... I am sure John Luongo thinks his company can be the next Peoplesoft, not just a Peoplesoft susidiary, but that is focusing on the reward only - not the risk. John is a rich man no matter what happens so I guess you could say; why not go for the glory of potentially becoming another Dave Duffield or Larry Ellison? However, most egos get squashed. Larry Ellison is the exception. Management rigidity is a common problem in Silicon Valley but then that is why so many of these companies do as well as they do; aggressive, risk-taking CEO's. What do you think??
