These announcements don't move stock prices. Companies make announcements like this all of the time. However, the earnings warnings that are coming out from various companies, as required by the SEC, will lower prices. Also, people just want to lock in their profits, earn interest on their cash, and buy Compaq in mid-January, when it will be in the 50's or less. They want to minimize their opportunity costs. I know you won't believe this, but let's just see!
