True Story - Kinda' off topic, but being a weekend....

So, please forgive me....

Twenty five years ago, I got into restoring old Fords.
I was doing a "complete" on a '39 Ford pickup. Great
one, this is the model with "beer barrel" grill and the
first year Ford adopted hydraulic brakes.

After finding all new rear brake parts including drums,
I still needed new wheel bearings. On the off-chance
they might be listed in the local auto supply store's
catalogs, I took one with me to check.

At my turn at the auto supply store counter, I pulled
out the bearing, said, "Do they still list rear wheel
bearings for pre-war Ford V-8s?"

(This is a massive, ugly looking, roller bearing.)

The clerk recoiled, said, "They've NEVER made a bearing
that looks like that ONE !"

I laughed and walked out. (Antique parts sources, of
course, had plenty of them.)

That clerk was looking directly at that ugly bearing
when he said what he did.

What AMAZES me today, the majority of people who do not
recoil, don't even realize, what's happening today !!!

Thank you Mish for all your enlightenment !!!
