Let me preface my comments with the disclosure that I am a speculator in the ilk of Gerald Loeb as outlined in his classic text "The Battle for Investment Survival". I have neither the patience nor the trust in institutions to be a long term investor. In bull markets I typically hold a position for 1 to 3 years. In bear markets I hold inverse positions for much shorter periods.

I don't worry about inflation and currency devaluations. Currencies will always inflate as that is how governments can continue to issue debt. We are in a golden age for speculators as we have markets all over the world to exploit. It's always 5 o'clock somewhere :)

Bull markets offer opportunity to make money along with the crowd, hopefully at a better pace than most. Bear markets offer the chance to make money much faster, although with greater risk (He who sells what isn't his'n, buys it back or goes to prison). I like the fact that the ride down on the elevator is quicker than the walk up the stairs to the roof.

Let the world's leaders rearrange the deck chairs on the Titanic to their heart's content. When the music stops I am confident I will find a seat unless they blow the world up. In that case, it won't matter.
