Hi Mark

I am interested in installing a 40 gig HD on a PC that was originally equipped with only a 2 1/2 gig HD.

The drive that I bought is a Western Digital. I made an attempt last week to do this and failed. I installed the drive in the bay and just unplugged from the old drive and left it in place and then attached the power ect to the new drive.

The drive came with a floppy which loaded some dos. I then attempted to load Windows 98 2nd edition. I got a windows error message su0013 1/2 way thru the installation which I have no idea what it means. On the second attempt it looked like the disk was formated again so maybe I lost the partition. DOS is not one of my strong points.<g> Second installation failed after windows loaded. Attempt 3 appeared as if it fully loaded but when I rebooted it stays in DOS, it loads windows if you strike a key but just gives error messages when you click on anything.

Im wondering if you have a link to a web resource for basic disk format and then instructions on how to load an OS step by step.

The mother board was made in 1998 and should support the large drive.

Many thanks in advance,
