>>Go find me a single neocon who ever called Brent Scowcroft a traitor. I could find local posters who labeled Colin Powell a traitor, or "clueless" if you prefer. It'd be chore, though.
I know I called him clueless more than once. But flamers on chat-boards don't count, Win. The charge was that the leading neocons had hijacked the Republican Party and were calling the Republican moderates traitors. I named Brent Scowcroft as one of those formerly influential "moderates" ("realists" would be a better term imo), NSD under Bush 41, and a vocal opponent of the Iraq war. Please find one prominent neocon who EVER called him a traitor or even implied it.
You won't, of course. That's why the charge was hysteria.
As for the Swiftees' "smear campaign". Let's see, it's been over a month since Kerry talked to reporters. There's been no effort to refute any of the charges, laid out in detail in the Swiftees' book. Two of the charges - Christmas in Cambodia and the first self-inflicted Purple Heart, have been admitted by the Kerry Campaign. Three in fact - Kerry's Silver Star's phony Combat V has been removed and the Navy is investigating how one medal came to have three separate citations.
Any campaign that has the signed affidavits of 250 decorated veterans, including about 60 of Kerry's 'Band of Brothers', is not your normal smear campaign, that's for sure. I would judge that the Swiftees have hulled Kerry's swiftboat under the water line.
btw, the Swiftee's book is #1 on the NYT best-seller list for the second week in a row. |
