The following is a post I put on the other thread a bit back and have received no response... Still too much tech talk there and little focus on investment. I am long now and would like to see how this thread responds... Thanks.

This is an interesting list of posts... I have been in and out of AMD over the years and am sad that I missed the recent run. I am
planning to get back in at these levels and am expecting another
run.

Intel is a class act, but with the volume of units being shipped these days, there is great room for more than one vendors, especially when you consider price/performance issues. Most of the postings I have read seem to deal with extremely detailed performance
issues of particular chips at the top end. As an engineer, I can
appreciate most of what you are saying (we all love power!!!). As
an investor, I don't believe it is that clear of an issue. I would tend
to guess that the majority of the commercial average Joe buyers
(Joe Public) has no clue what the difference is between 300MHz
and 450MHz and would not see the difference in 95% of the things
they would use the box for. I do believe that they are more likely to notice the difference between $1200 and $2500 for a setup and
other features like audio/display for playing games and getting on
the Internet.

My question right now is more about margin on the chips sold.
AMD can sell everything they can make as can Intel, but at what
cost. If they have to keep lowering the margins as a commodity
item, can the companies make decent profits for investors?
