The Financial Post reports in a Hot Stock corporate profile in its Wednesday edition that Cameco is riding the wave of an uranium price recovery. Reporter Ian Karleff says that a small rise in the price of
uranium has radiated through to investors, who have been bidding up the shares of the world's largest producer, Cameco. Shares of the Saskatoon-based uranium and gold producer have risen 36 per cent this
year. The spot price of uranium has climbed 11 per cent to $9.75 (U.S.) a pound from $8.75 (U.S.) in November. Salman Partners analyst Kevin Eldridge is resigned to calling 1998 a horrible year for
uranium, but he is optimistic that the price of the commodity could climb as high as $12.50 (U.S.) a pound this year. He is hesistant to give a target price for Cameco stock because of the tenuous nature of
the Russian negotiations, but he recommends that investors accumulate the shares. Deutsche Bank Securities analyst Fraser Phillips is cautiously keen on Cameco.
