The only thing that will hurt AOL is when and if the competition begins to educate the AOLers. The users think there is some big mystery about the web and AOL has solved it for them. There seems to be a big fear of getting out of the AOL world. They don't seem to realize what is out here. AOL banks on that ignorance and fear of the unknown. It makes them some big bucks. If T, GTE, and the rest don't begin big education campaigns, AOL will survive and prosper. If the education begins, AOL goes down quickly. Cash flow, etc. are just too major to deal with. Remember, the access problem hasn't gone away. In fact, there are 4-5 more months staring these people in the face. How long will they put up with it once they believe there might be another choice?
