Ascential(TM)Software, Inc., the leading provider of Information Asset Management solutions, today announced the appointment of Robert C. Ms. Protano will work with Mr. McBride during a transition period.

Mr. McBride brings more than 25 years of financial and administration experience at Fortune 500 information systems companies to Ascential Software, where he is responsible for all financial matters related to the company. He also held a variety of senior management positions in the Information Systems and Finance areas of Burroughs Corporation. Mr. McBride served as an infantry officer in the United States Army. He received a master's degree in business administration from Washington University (St. Louis, Mo.) and a bachelor's degree from Ohio Wesleyan University (Delaware, Ohio).

"We are very pleased to have someone with Bob's experience and stature join Ascential Software," said Peter Fiore, president of Ascential Software. "His financial planning and operations leadership skills will benefit Ascential Software as we embark on our next growth stage, as the leader in information asset management solutions."

"Having worked with Bob in the past, I am confident that his talents and experience will have a great impact on our capability to execute our growth plans and to build sustained shareholder value," said Peter Gyenes, chairman and chief executive officer of Informix Corporation, the parent company of Ascential Software.

"I am excited to be part of the Ascential Software team," added Mr. McBride. "It is a terrific opportunity to join a company that is a leader in a growth market. I am looking forward to working with Pete Fiore and Peter Gyenes and the entire management team to keep the company disciplined and focused on its core principles of customer satisfaction, product leadership, and growth through strategic worldwide partnerships. This is the basis upon which we expect to build value for our customers, employees and stockholders."

"We are thankful to Joanne for the significant contributions she has made to Ascential Software during her tenure," concluded Mr. Fiore. "She is the consummate financial professional and senior executive. We wish her and her family the best."

As previously announced, Informix Corporation (NASDAQ: IFMX) has agreed to sell its database business to IBM and concentrate on its information asset management product direction. The transaction is expected to be completed in the third quarter of 2001. Once completed, the company will be renamed Ascential Software Corporation.
