You wouldn't be misconstruing me, would you bp? How unusual for that to happen here. What I questioned was the description of a Marine Corps Reserve Major as "a highly placed military officer". Major isn't a particularly high rank, you still have to go through the two colonel levels before you get to the lowest general grade. And the Reserves, honorable though they may be, is not the first place to look for a "highly placed military officer". He's entitled to his view, but the services are also entitled to enforce their code of conduct, as they see fit. A nonpolitical military is something Americans usually take pride in, at least within our own country.
