The new products we are introducing includes a hand-held digital portable recorder (which uses standard PC flash card memory of up to 6.5 hours of recording and TrueSpeech voice compression), "Playall" software that will play any wave file (compressed or standard PCM formats) and provides professional playback control functions, a foot pedal which plugs into and shares the keyboard port on any PC, and headset. What this adds up to is a low-cost (under US$1,000) digital dictation system (dictation and transcription) that does not require anything to be installed in the PC. Because no special installation expertise is required, this product bundle will be sold through 1,000 dealers (our current systems are sold through about 100 dealers). This will give our installed base a huge boost and provide opportunities to upgrade these customers over time to our complete PC DART system solution (voice files will have to be managed as the volume of dictation grows with use of the hand-held). As far as alliances are concerned, potential partners include a leading speech technology company, a paging and voice management company that is itself in partnership with a regional telco, a systems integration company that currently services major government and Fortune 1000 accounts, and a leading developer of transcription software.
