Siemens licenses positioning technology for U.S. markets

Timo Poropudas The Siemens Information and Communication Mobile Group ( IC Mobile) will integrate Cursor location software from Cambridge Positioning Systems ( CPS) into its offering for North American mobile operators.
As part of the cooperation, CPS will provide E-OTD software integration for Siemens handsets via its recently opened integration facility in Cambridge. The Cursor software utilizes the E-OTD (Enhanced Observed Time Difference) technology that offers GSM operators accuracy to within 100 meters - in line with the E-911 mandate by the U.S. FCC.
"This is a major development for CPS. The licensing agreement is hugely significant for the profile of E-OTD technology as the high accuracy, cost effective solution for mobile location, " said Chris Wade, Chief Executive of CPS in the company press release. The company is working with, or has licensed its technology to Ericsson, Nortel Networks, Siemens and Lucent Technologies.
Siemens IC Mobile offers the complete range of mobile solutions including mobile devices, infrastructure and applications. For the fiscal year 2001 (September 30), IC Mobile recorded sales of EUR 11.3 billion and employed 30,730 people worldwide. |
