Starbase Named to Software Magazine's 20th Annual Software 500; Starbase's Rising Software and Services Revenue Earns Position in the Top 300 August 20, 2002 08:15:00 AM ET
SANTA ANA, Calif., Aug. 20 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Starbase Corporation SBASD, a leading provider of enterprise application management solutions designed to speed the software development lifecycle, today announced that it has been named for the fifth consecutive year to Software Magazine's annual ranking of the world's foremost software and services providers, the Software 500. Starbase ranked number 275 with calendar year 2001 worldwide software and services revenues of $50.1 million, as featured in the publication's Summer Edition 2002 issue.
"Although IT spending was slow last year, many software product and service suppliers did do well," says John Desmond, Software Magazine's editorial director. "Companies who can deliver rapid return on investment for their customers with focused product offerings had better results. CIOs and senior IT managers can peruse this yearly benchmark to see how their product and service partners fared. That's a valuable service."
In the five years that Starbase has held a position on the elite listing, the Company has moved from an original ranking of 493 in 1997 with software revenue of $1.2 million to a position within the Top 300 in 2002.
"We are honored to be named to the Top 500 again this year," said Jim Harrer, president and CEO of Starbase. "Our development and service efforts have been focused on serving the corporate enterprise, and I believe this has contributed to our recognition as a leading application solution provider. Our focus will continue to be on improving productivity and delivering a clear ROI with a lower cost of ownership, enabling the Company to continue meeting the needs of our customers."
The Software 500 is a comprehensive look at the software industry targeting enterprise IT organizations with software and services. The list includes both private and public companies. The Software 500 is a worldwide list in that it is open to any company to submit financial and product information via the annual Software 500 survey which, for the first time this year, was conducted 100% on the Web by The Standish Group, a research and analyst firm based in Yarmouthport, Mass.
The ranking is based on total worldwide software and service revenue for 2001. This includes revenues from software licenses, maintenance and support, training, and software-related services and consulting. Suppliers are not ranked on their total corporate revenue, since many have other lines of business, such as hardware. Companies are measured on calendar year revenues whenever possible to compare the same four quarters; fiscal year exceptions are noted. The financial information was gathered by a survey prepared by the Standish Group with King Content Co. and posted at www.softwaremag.com , as well as from public documents. All the charts are based on the survey results.
The Software 500 ranking is first published in print and later posted to www.softwaremag.com . An announcement of when the Software 500 will be posted online will be forthcoming soon.
