"Scholastic Network Leaves AOL For Web" (full story at Newsbytes Web
site at newsbytes.com )

"NEW YORK, NEW YORK, U.S.A., 1996 SEP 18
(NB) -- By Richard Bowers. Scholastic Inc.
[NASDAQ:SCHL], of Weekly Reader fame, has
announced that its Scholastic Network, an
online service developed specifically for K-8
schools, is leaving AOL and concentrating on
the Internet. The Network claims more than ten
thousand schools are have subscribed while on
AOL, but that they will have more flexibility on
pricing and content delivery on the Internet."

"Scholastic Network is a subscription-based
online service that features classroom projects,
programs and educational games. It also has
teacher chat rooms and professional
development programs."

"A new pricing structure allows for a single
subscription to one address for as little as $199
per year. This low price is available for those
sites with Internet access already in place, and is
for unlimited access. Unlimited site licenses,
with Internet access provided, are available for
$2,000 per school."

"Scholastic is offering free unlimited access for
the next 30 days to anyone who wants to review
the site. The free service is available at
scholastic.com ."

There goes 10,000 schools plus the millions of children who are decoupled from AOL and are introduced directly to the Net.

And the beat goes on and on and ....
