Hello Linden deCarmo: shorting in IRA accounts
To my knowledge you cannot short stocks in any IRA. You can box though. You can buy options. The understanding I have is that an IRA cannot be pledged in any way. Naked shorting would be pledging the IRA. Buying securities is not pledging, neither is boxing. An IRA could only be unboxed though on the short leg. I see no advantage to boxing unless you are trying to trade the volatility of an upward price trend.
Best regards,
m
