What is especially egregious is that Trump would lie about our sweet neighbor to the north to justify his tariffs, which are really just a mechanism to raise tax money so he can get rid of the income tax on the rich 1%!
That's the thing. Does Trump really want to transition the U.S. back to a model where tariffs, rather than income taxes, funded the federal government?

He keeps talking about it, but given how he reversed course on tariffs given Mexico's concessions, he also knows just how harmful tariffs really are, both to our economy and that of our trading partners.

Plus the world is a lot different than what it was back in the late-1800's. Going back to that era would be like the military going back to tactics centered around muskets.
