Well, INTC & MSFT are going after the server market in a big way with NT, pentium pro and their offspring. The idea is to bring PC pricing to the server market. You can find lots of discussion of this issue here, in the usenet and in the computer mags. Compaq/Dell/HP and so on are also involved in this. Allen's posts are informative (and I also think WIND is an excellent investment) but as one UCSD grad (PhD) to another: look carefully before you buy.
