ne Year Later: Sonus Reflects on the Acquisition of NET By Rich SteevesTMCnet Managing Editordigg
There are many paths to growth in the business world. Companies spend a great deal of time and money designing roadmaps to put themselves in the best position for the future.
But sometimes, businesses can achieve spectacular results by acquiring the right company at the right time. Savvy businesses will pursue both strategies and, when successful, they’ll be able to reflect back on their growth and note how well pieces fell into place.
Such is the case when Sonus Networks (News - Alert)looks back on its acquisition of Network Equipment Technologies.According to David Tipping (News - Alert), VP and GM of the SBC business unit at Sonus,
The company had a clear vision when it entered the session border controllers pace in 2001. It had the right product and as the market matured, providing solutions for service providers. Then, the market began to bifurcate into service provider and enterprise markets, a typical core-to-edge. Of course, Sonus’ saw SIP trunking as the future I both areas, so it planned its organic growth to meet the needs of both ends. At the same time, though NET (News - Alert) came onto its radar. The communications needs of enterprises are unique. Some are still transitioning to SIP, for example.
Sonus was attracted to NET’s unique portfolio for the enterprise market. It would allow Sonus to be the one source of solutions for anyone.
Sonus knew that unified communications solutions like Lync would change the game. With the NET acquisition, Sonus had picked up technology that had been built for the enterprise, enabling Lync from both ends.In the past year, Sonus has focused on research and development, looking for ways to make Lync even better, like enabling 3G and 4G survivability, and getting certification in numerous areas.
Now a Gold Partner with Microsoft (News - Alert), Sonus has apartner program of its own coming to fruition. Microsoft technology centers allow Sonus to present with Microsoft, continuing to innovate and educate, like with the line of …for Dummies books that teach topics such as session border controllers and Lync voice.
Tipping is pleased that Sonus has nearly doubled its market penetration, and feels it is important to be number one or number two in both the service provider and enterprise market, valuing strong relationships that it has forged. The company has a broad, versatile portfolio and, after a successful year, is looking forward to even more progress in the future.Sonus will be present this week at ITEXPO Las Vegas. Vice president of Enterprise- Americas, Lee Tannenbau, will take part in, "SBCs – A Must for Your Enterprise IP Network," discussing the need for SBCs in at the enterprise network edge for security and privacy requirements, signaling and traffic encryption, media and signaling forking, network demarcation, and threat detection and mitigation, and interoperability, enabli |
