Your first premise is bogus. We do not know how malleable sexual orientation is. It seems apparent that some people cannot change their sexual orientation, but given the existence of jailhouse homosexuals who revert to heterosexuality upon release, it is likely enough that there is some significant number of circumstantial homosexuals. In any event, it ia matter of controversy, and has not been resolved. Additionally, it is generally acknowledged that few pedophiles will be cured, but the persistence of the trait by itself does no make it acceptable, much less normal. Finally, from a historical perspective, civil union is an invitation to come closer to be mainstreamed, not per se a move to marginalization.
