I'm receiving service, just not checks - well not checks as in SS, etc. I am a teacher, so my salary- tiny as it is- comes from the state. But my husbands very large salary is not dependent upon the government- and goes to paying for a lot of stuff.
Here are the services I like- education (preeschool and k- college), child welfare and protection, food inspection, worker protections, community medicine, assistance for the poor, retraining, roads, bridges and levees- and other infrastructure, public TV (I'd like to see more support for this- a la the UK), national parks workers, police, fire, DMV, mosquito abatement, pest abatement, infectious disease research (actually all the government labs- I'm for 'em all- I love big research).
Yup, I'm pretty pleased with the fact that we don't have a lot of beggars- and the very poor aren't desperate enough to turn to kidnapping, or mayhem in the suburbs. I'd like socialized medicine, I think, because in general I've been happy when I've interfaced with the government.
And my husband feels the same way. |
