One part of me wants to discount it completely. A "we are not getting a prompt response from Intel for more "marketing $$'s".

However, another part seems to think that DELL is building up a slow momentum to carry AMD Opteron's so that they have a story to tell Intel and to wall street.

"What could we do as a responsible business?" We say "building interest" and we started evaluating Opteron's and then embraced them when it built to a critical level.

A third possibility could be that given Hector's public statements ("We don't need Dell"), Dell's been cutoff from the Opteron sample loop and that scares them. They don't know what they could be missing or the most cynical part of me would say that they cannot fulfill their part of the Intel "marketing $$'s" by not being able to funnel early Opteron samples to Intel!

:)
