We used to stop in there before that. Now we won't..
Well, don't let the chew crew ruin a good visit to the Chateau. Btw, do they still have those lunches in the train? I can't remember from where to where the train went, they say they are a lot of fun and the food is supposed to be superb.
As far as red wines, California will never be matched by anyone except the Europeans, and in some instances, only the very best of them. However, in whites, there are some Chardonnays and Rieslings that are better in Washington. Semillon, definitively I would drink a WA before a CA.
Being a Cougar, you are closer to the Yakima valley than the Huskies so it would be easier for you to tour the wineries.... for some reason the Columbia Valley seems to have lesser quality on average than Yakima, I do not know why.
You can get very good deals by visiting the wineries, particularly the smaller ones, that would be one way of beating the lower price from California.
Then you have the salmon, particularly the copper river salmon in June, (yes it is in Alaska, but Washington gets it as fresh), nothing beats that, with a good Chardonnay.... then there is the blueberries, blackberries, Pike Street Market, etc. etc. etc. Nice place Washington state. I love the San Juan Islands too.... etc. etc.....
Enjoy. |
