Well, running the bases is a little different issue. Which is also the responsibility of the Pentagon. They are, or at least were, looking at a lot of options including mini-nuclear reactors. AFAIK, this has been the bulk of their activity. I doubt seriously if anyone has proposed flying jets or running tanks on solar or wind power. The series Ironheart notwithstanding... Or providing fuel for things like jets on carriers. Producing jet fuel from water, CO2 with the help of the nuclear reactors makes logistics simpler. Probably nowhere near cost-effective on land, but on the high seas that threshold is a lot lower.
