I agree about moving to another thread... If you find the right one, please let me know. Don't make a mistake, I see a future for Java. The thing I'm disputing is that Java will take the center stage in computing, replace Windows and destroy Microsoft in the process... I can see Java running connectivity related behind-the-scenes stuff on servers, or even some end-user functionality. But all the benefits that Java theoretically has to offer are not necessarily useful or important. If x86 stays the rule, then we probably do not need cross-platform compatibility, for example - and the cross-platform feature is really the lifeblood of Java.
Hmmm, never did try to convert a OpenGL graphics app to Windows. Shouldn't that be easy these days, with MS licensing it...?
Right, well, I'd love to say more on all this tech stuff, but I'm leaving on a nice long vacation today, so... let me know the other thread some day.
