Kayaker is correct. The market cannot "wipe out" a single dollar. It simply has no mechanism for creating or destroying money. The fallacy arises from double counting. Suppose you have no assets other than a house worth a million dollars. You may think you are a millionaire, but in that case you must have sold the house. If you still have the house you have no money. Same with stocks.
