need help with win2000 regedit....

i am trying to delete some firewall rules in win2000pro registry. i am definitely not a master reg tweaker, but i have done some low level stuff with win98se regedit.

so here's the prob... i get into regedit and find the keys i wish to delete. i highlight one, click delete (either from top edit menu or from right-click menu) and i get a dialog asking "are you sure? yes-no". then, upon saying yes there appears an 'error deleting key' dialog saying "cannot delete rule14: error while deleting key".

this happens with any of the keys i am trying to delete in the registry. i have the firewall disabled while doing this regedit.

any suggestions?

ALSO.... how do i backup the registry in win2000pro? in w98se i simply copied the user.dat and system.dat files to a jaz disk and forged ahead with the edits. those files do not exist in win2000pro.

my greatest safety net is drive image3.0. i imaged my w2k partition yesterday afternoon in anticipation of messing around with these firewall rules in the registry, so i am confident that if everything went to heck i could restore a fresh os image in a few minutes. i've even read that i can restore specific files and folders from a drive image, though few people seem to realize that or to have done that.

but if possible, i'd like to just back up the w2k registry. and i'd like to edit the darn thing without getting error messages.

thanks for any assistance.

:)
