When OLED was in the stage MLED is in now, it took years before factories were built to be able to actually support a major product like the the Galaxy. We could see that by the reports from Samsung and other sources. So wouldn't we have time to actually see the progress of MLED via the capital expenditures by Foxxconn or any other company working on this technology. Or would waiting until we start seeing that buildout be too late and OLED the company would be crushed by that time?

I believe that microLED's need the same LTPS backplane that mobile OLED's use in their fabs. That means that you wouldnt need to build a whole new fab for microLED's but could convert capacity as needed. However, something like the Galaxy (or iPhone) would still require a large amount of new capital equipment and we would start hearing about orders long before we saw an official announcement.

The Watch uses far less volume so it could be possible that a display manufacturer could order the necessary capital equipment without the market noticing. However, my guess is that we would still hear rumors, particularly as Apple canceled orders for more OLED Watch screens.

I dont expect that we'll ever be surprised by the display technology of a new Apple Watch during a keynote. The news will have leaked well before any announcement by Apple.
