I can assure you that the company I fly for has both tested and certified that all of their BA and Airbus AC are fully Y2K compliant. Like I stated earlier, all of the INS, GPS, and FMS sytems aboard modern generation AC are self contained.

I believe there's a GPS rollover problem that had not yet been fully handled as of a few months ago. The GPS rollover date is not 1/1/00, however. I think it's sometime in August (not sure about this). This is, of course, a satellite issue, not an avionics issue, but the result would be the same.

Nonetheless, I agree with you on your main point--this hysteria about planes falling out of the air is a joke. And, as for ATC going without radar--I think it'd be good for you flyboys to have to go back to your primary training and try to remember the correct sequence for position reporting <g>. It'll provide some good entertainment on the radios.
